Job Description

Facilities Director
  • The Director of Facility Support and Construction provides on-going oversight for all MVH facilities, construction, physical plant, and surrounding grounds and buildings on the main campus. The overall vision is to provide a safe and quality oriented environment through which quality patient care, a safe work environment, and patient satisfaction can be achieved through adhering to all standards and goals set forth by Premier Health, outside regulatory agencies, local, state and federal laws that define safety along with quality.

  • Responsible for the Department of Plant Services and Engineering, Campus Construction, Steam/Power Generating facility, Safety, Interior Design, Patient Television service, Newspaper service and Parking Garages. 

  • Can operationalize and implement hospital strategic plans, departmental agendas and support community /hospital initiatives.

  • Ability to execute the monitoring ongoing departmental capital and operation budgets, while developing annual proactive capital departmental budget based on current demand, past performance and projected "needs" outlook.

  • Primary responsibility for compliance with the Environment of Care and Life Safety measures. Works closely with Hospital Safety Officer and Regulatory departments.

  • The incumbent will be responsible for campus construction for projects <$5,000,000, in-house renovation, and work collaboratively with PHP Director of Strategic Construction for on campus new construction projects >$5,000,000. 

  • Liaison for many activities that require coordination between the division of nursing, hospital departments and staff e.g. construction projects, facility updates and maintaining the facility in a "survey readiness" condition. Coordination with local city, county, and state organizations on activities on or around the campuses.

  • This position is responsible for the coordination of approximately 55 full-time employees.  The annual operating budget for these departments is over $15 million in expenses, minimal revenue generation, and $15 million in capital requests for campus specific improvements. 

  • The incumbent is expected to serve on multiple hospital committees (including Premier Health and sister hospital forums when necessary) to assure his/her areas of responsibility are represented when decisions are made that will impact the departments and ensure the safety and compliancy issues with TJC and other outside regulatory agencies (NFPA, OSHA, EPA & OHD)will be complied with within the hospital. 

Qualifications & Requirements
  • The Director of Facility Support and Construction must possess a Bachelors degree; a Masters' degree in a relevant field such as Engineering, Project Management, Business or Facilities Management is preferred. 

  • A minimum of 8 years in a leadership position is required preferably within a health care environment.

  • Possession of a current CHFM or CHSP certification preferred or the ability to obtain such within the first year of employment.

  • Multiple years of facilities management experience in a community hospital or healthcare maintenance environment with staffing oversight responsibility.

  • Working knowledge of preventive maintenance, P/M scheduling, of electrical delivery systems, switchgear, generators, HVAC, chillers and boiler plant operations.

  • Have a familiarity of fire sprinkler systems, alarm notifications, security, nurse call and med gas systems.

  • Working knowledge of following trades: painting, carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, mechanical, electrical, some low voltage, flooring, asphalt and masonry.

  • Hands on experience with Environment of Care and Life Safety policies and procedures relative to The Joint Commission, Department of Health and Center of Medicaid/Medicare Services.

  • The director will have behavioral traits that demonstrate:
    • The ability to identify and define problems and communicate solutions in a direct concrete manner

    • The ability to prioritize tasks and produce a structured plan for their implementation

    • An interpersonal style that communicates an interest in people

    • The ability to provide useful feedback to staff and managers.
