Google

Google continues to expand the way it finds and hires talent that is representative of its global users. The company is equally committed to ensuring it is a fair and inclusive place for everyone to work.

"A diverse mix of voices leads to better discussions, decisions, and outcomes for everyone." - Sundar Pichai, CEO, Google

Preparing Promising Talent for Leading Technical Roles

Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) produce over 35% of Black computer scientists, so it’s critical these students are prepared for leading technical roles. In partnership with computer science departments at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), the Google in Residence (GIR) program was established in 2013 to support greater diversity in the tech industry. Googlers - experienced software engineers - spend four to five months on campuses, teaching introductory computer science classes. Since GIRs launch at Howard University, the program has since expanded to 10 HBCUs including. These partnerships have also led to higher enrollment in the Intro to CS classes and an unprecedented number of HBCU students joining Google as summer interns.

Google in Residence Campuses:
  • Alabama A&M University, Huntsville, AL

  • Dillard University, New Orleans, LA

  • Fisk University, Nashville, TN

  • Hampton University, Hampton, VA

  • Howard University, Washington, D.C.

  • Morehouse College, Atlanta, GA

  • Morgan State University, Baltimore, MD

  • Spelman College, Atlanta, GA

  • Tennessee State University, Nashville, TN

  • Xavier University of Louisiana, New Orleans, LA

Encouraging Googlers to Celebrate Diversity and Inclusion

Googlers are passionate about diversity and asked for more ways to make a difference. As a result, Google created the Diversity Core program to connect them to high impact diversity projects across Google and in local communities. The company also has 20+ Employee Resource Groups, including the Black Googler Network, to connect with a network of people who have shared values of supporting diversity.

Supporting the Black Community at Google

The Black Googler Network (BGN) is an employee resource group of Googlers with a mission to cultivate Black leaders at Google and beyond, empower the communities where we operate, and transform the tech industry to reflect the diversity of its users. Members of BGN sponsor many events throughout the year including month-long activities for Black History Month, mentoring, and volunteer activities.

How Google Hires

There’s no one kind of Googler, so we’re always looking for people who can bring new perspectives and life experiences to our teams. If you’re looking for a place that values your curiosity, passion, and desire to learn, if you’re seeking colleagues who are big thinkers eager to take on fresh challenges as a team, then you’re a future Googler.
